The IMO has adopted the “Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships” in 2009 and has been enforced by EU-Regulation 1257/2013 on December 30th, 2013. Affected are all ships of and above 500GT and reach from manufacturers and suppliers via shipyards and shipowners down to ship recyclers.
Key requirements :
- Preparation of and documentation of Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) for all existing ships and platforms flagged in the EU or visiting an EU-port till December 30th, 2020 (new ships since Dec. 30th, 2015)
- Authorization of Ship Recycling Facilities
